This week's featured organization is GrassROOTS Community Foundation, whose mission is to create a world where all girls grow up to be healthy women.
To do that, they coordinate a variety of volunteer-run programs and events, such as:
- Seedlings: Youth programs such as summer camps and educational events
- Leaves: Programs for at-risk youth from 10-13 years old, with an emphasis on public health challenges
- Branches: Programs that focus on teens and work towards enhancing self-worth and providing educational support
- Roots: Support for mothers, equipping them with the skills maintain their health and the health of their children
Their latest initiative is the SuperGirls Society (SGS), an extension of their summer camp program, focused on the health and wellbeing of Black girls, fostering sisterhood, and serving as an example of Black girl excellence.
By the time this newsletter goes out, applications for the program will be closed, but they can still use your support! And they always have new, fun programs on the way for girls and women:
GrassROOTS also regular organizes 5K runs, not only to benefit the communities in which they work, but also to fund their wellness and leadership programs. Their next run is in - and is for the benefit of - Philadelphia! If you're there and want to participate, it's not too late to register:
